Descrizione del servizio

Colposcopy is a gynecological examination that allows for detailed observation of the uterine cervix, vagina, and vulva using an instrument called a colposcope. This procedure is performed by a specialized gynecologist and is useful for further investigating any abnormalities found during a Pap test or for monitoring specific gynecological conditions.

A cosa serve

Colposcopy is indicated for:

  • Further investigating abnormal Pap test or HPV test results.
  • Identifying any precancerous lesions or cellular changes.
  • Diagnosing infections, inflammations, or other conditions of the uterine cervix.
  • Guiding any targeted biopsies for further analysis.

This examination is an important step in preventing cervical cancer and allows for early diagnosis of any abnormalities.

🔹 When to book? If your Pap test has detected abnormalities or your gynecologist has recommended further investigation, colposcopy is a crucial step for prevention and early diagnosis.

Cosa aspettarsi

  • The examination is performed in the office and lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.
  • The gynecologist will use a speculum to expose the cervix and will apply specific solutions to highlight any abnormalities.
  • The colposcope does not come into contact with the body, but it allows for magnification of the area to be examined.
  • In some cases, a small tissue sample (biopsy) may be taken for further analysis.
  • After the examination, you might experience slight discomfort or light spotting for a few hours, especially if a biopsy was performed.
