Colposcopy

Colposcopy is a gynecological exam that allows you to observe in detail the uterine cervix, vagina and vulva through an instrument called a colposcope. This examination is carried out by a specialized gynecologist and is useful to investigate any anomalies found during the Pap smear or to monitor specific gynecological conditions.

Colposcopy is indicated for:

• Investigate abnormal Pap smear or HPV test results.

• Identify any precancerous lesions or cell changes.

• Diagnose infections, inflammation, or other conditions of the cervix.

• Drive any targeted biopsies for more in-depth analysis.

This examination is an important step in the prevention of cervical cancer and allows an early diagnosis of any anomalies.

🔹 When to book? If your Pap smear has detected anomalies or your gynecologist has recommended an examination, colposcopy is a fundamental step for prevention and early diagnosis.

• The examination takes place in an outpatient clinic and lasts about 15-20 minutes. • The gynecologist will use a speculum to expose the cervix and will apply specific solutions to highlight any changes. • The colposcope does not come into contact with the body, but allows you to enlarge the area to be examined. • In some cases, a small sample of tissue (biopsy) may be taken for further analysis. • After the examination, you may experience slight discomfort or minor loss for a few hours, especially if a biopsy has been performed.
